Build Partnerships
To build partnerships and motivate partners to remain engaged, let them know why they should participate. For example, deliver messages that—
- Introduce the Weed and Seed strategy.
- Explain why their participation is important to your program.
- Point out how participation will benefit them.
- Offer them a specific role.
Interpersonal, small-group, and mass media communications are all useful for recruiting partners. Tactics that support interpersonal communication include telephone scripts, presentation slides, and brochures. Partners will stick with you if you acknowledge their contributions.
Getting Started
- Send thank-you letters, award certificates of appreciation, and verbally acknowledge contributors during awards ceremonies.
- Include the names of all partners—organizations and individuals—in communications materials, such as newsletters, brochures, and presentation handouts.
- Give partners credit when you are being interviewed or delivering presentations.
- Develop and disseminate routine communication in the form of a newsletter (electronic or hardcopy) or report that details partners' contributions in addition to your strategy's progress.
