Get Your Message Out
Work With the Media

Mass media are the primary source of information for a vast majority of Americans, so it stands to reason that regular media exposure will enhance your Weed and Seed efforts and help you to get your message out. This sounds simple enough, but how do you actually get that exposure?

If you took a high school journalism class, you know about the six questions that must be answered in every news story:

  • Who?
  • What?
  • When?
  • Where?
  • Why?
  • How?

The needs are no different if you're to develop an effective media plan for Weed and Seed. First you need to know how to use the local media. After you have a grasp of the steps involved, you must understand the differences among media outlets and the roles of media professionals. Finally, use the information you have gathered to package and present your information to meet their needs. This will help ensure that your media outreach efforts cut through the barrage of requests for time and space.
