Summary
This cost-effective program of home
visitation by nurses, tested over the past
20 years, has the proven ability to reduce
the development of antisocial behavior
in childhood and later crime and delinquency.
It has been effective in reducing
three major categories of risk related to
antisocial behavior: adverse maternal
prenatal health-related behaviors; child
abuse and neglect; and troubled maternal
life course (unintended successive
pregnancies, reduced work-force participation,
welfare dependence, substance
abuse, and criminal behavior).
