New Statistical Report
on America's Children
The
Federal Interagency Forum on Child and Family Statistics has released America's
Children in Brief: Key National Indicators of Well-Being 2004, a
compilation of statistics about children's economic security, health,
behavior, social environment, and education. OJJDP is one of 20
federal agencies collaborating to produce the report each year.
Drawn from the most recent, most reliable official statistics,
America's Children offers a comprehensive portrait of the nation's
children in a nontechnical, user-friendly format.
America's Children in Brief: Key National
Indicators of Well-Being 2004 is available online through
OJJDP's Web site. A limited number of printed copies are
available free of charge from OJJDP's Juvenile Justice Clearinghouse
(request NCJ 205911). To learn more about the Federal Interagency
Forum on Child and Family Statistics, and to view and download
any edition of America's Children, visit childstats.gov.
This is the inaugural issue of America's
Children in Brief. Since 1997, the Forum has published
an annual America's Children report
that includes detailed indicators of child well-being. To make
better use of its resources, the Forum has decided to update
all data annually on its enhanced Web site (childstats.gov) and
alternate the more detailed report with this abbreviated version,
which highlights selected indicators. The next detailed report
will be published in July 2005.
