National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week is February 2-6, 2009. Join OVW this month and throughout the year in their efforts to address and prevent dating violence. For more information, visit the OVW Web site. (OVW)

 
Funding Opportunities
 
Apply for Wrongful Conviction Grant

Application deadline: March 16, 2009
NIJ is seeking applicants for the Social Science Research on Wrongful Conviction solicitation. This grant will fund research on postconviction DNA exonerations in the investigation, trial, and postconviction stages of the criminal justice process as well as a comparison to non-DNA exonerations. Preference will be given to proposals for the collection and analysis of data in all three stages. (NIJ)

 
Call Scheduled for Tribal JADG Program Applicants

On February 10, 2009, OJJDP will conduct an audio conference call for prospective applicants for its FY 2009 Tribal Juvenile Accountability Discretionary Grants (JADG) Program. The call will provide an opportunity for program managers to respond to applicants' questions about the solicitation. (OJJDP)

 
Funding Available for Drug Free Communities Program

Application deadline: March 20, 2009
The Office of National Drug Control Policy, in partnership with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, has released the FY2009 Drug Free Communities Support Program Request for Applications. A series of applicant workshops will be held between January 29 and February 19, 2009, to assist applicants with the proposal process. (ONDCP)

 
Improving Technology for Law Enforcement and Corrections

Application deadline: March 2, 2009
NIJ's Technology Research and Development for Law Enforcement and Corrections Application solicitation is now available. This grant seeks applications for research and development that will improve the means to confirm an individual's identity, locate and track cooperative or noncooperative individuals, detect contraband, and improve data analysis tools. New OVC Grant Available

Application deadline: February 24, 2009
OVC is seeking applications for the National Field-Generated Training, Technical Assistance, and Demonstration Projects solicitation. This grant offers awards of $50,000 to $500,000 to private nonprofit organizations or public agencies. All initiatives must focus on advancing rights and services to crime victims in a variety of areas, including child abuse, elder abuse, sexual assault, and stalking. (OVC)

Bulletin Presents Incident Data on Human Trafficking

"Characteristics of Suspected Human Trafficking Incidents, 2007-08" (NCJ 224526, 16 pp.) presents preliminary findings from the Human Trafficking Reporting System on alleged incidents of human trafficking reported by 38 federally funded task forces. (BJS)

 
Toolkit Offers Guidance on Court Performance Measures

OJJDP's "Toolkit for Court Performance Measures in Child Abuse and Neglect Cases" provides guidance on undertaking performance measurements, improving child and family outcomes, and advancing more efficient and effective dependency court operations. (OJJDP)

 
Winter Issue of SMART Watch Available

The latest issue of "SMART Watch" (NCJ 225374) addresses the myths and facts related to implementation of the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). It also includes a tribute to the first SMART Office Director, Laura L. Rogers. Additional articles discuss SORNA compliance extensions, SORNA-related offenses, and other SMART-related information. OVC invites you to add your winter and spring events to the National Calendar of Crime Victim Assistance-Related Events. The National Calendar helps you locate, plan, and promote victim assistance-related events nationwide, allowing you to connect with a larger victim service audience and gain national exposure. Child Internet Safety Podcast Available Online

DC Public Safety's online radio show recently highlighted dangers children face on the Internet. The January 15, 2009, podcast features an interview with Marsali Hancock, president of the Internet Keep Safe Coalition, a Project Safe Childhood partner. (OJJDP)

 
Missing Persons Database Is Live on NamUs

The nation's first online database for missing persons records is now live at www.namus.gov. The general public and law enforcement can enter information on missing persons (subject to verification). Both NamUs databases - unidentified human remains and now missing persons - are fully searchable. NamUs is the National Missing and Unidentified Persons System. (NIJ)

 
NCJRS Offers Feature on Teen Dating Violence

In recognition of National Teen Dating Violence Awareness and Prevention Week (February 2-6, 2009), NCJRS invites you to view the Teen Dating Violence Special Feature. This online resource contains links to publications and Web sites that focus on the prevalence and prevention of dating violence among teens. (NCJRS)

 
New Online Training Resource Available

TrainingForums.org provides relevant, timely training and discussions for the domestic violence victim service provider community. This e-learning facility was developed by the Office on Violence Against Women and Witness Justice. Courses consist of multidimensional presentations that can be accessed and completed at the student's discretion. (OVW)

 
Resource Provides Guidance for Tribal Neighborhood Watch

"Watch Out, Help Out Your Community: Neighborhood Watch Resources for Native American Communities" provides information for Native American communities interested in implementing Neighborhood Watch programs. This online resource offers an historical overview of Neighborhood Watch and includes examples of successful program implementation and crime prevention materials. (BJA)
