Apply for Grant To Research Child Exploitation

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
OJJDP is seeking applicants for the Research on the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) program. CSEC describes a constellation of crimes of a sexual nature committed against victims younger than 18 primarily for financial or other economic reasons. (OJJDP)

 
Apply To Support Family Court-Involved Youth

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
OJJDP invites applicants for the Family Drug Courts Program, which provides grants to develop and implement drug courts for substance-abusing adults involved with family dependency courts as a result of child abuse and neglect issues. The program must provide services to the children of the parents in the program as well as to the parents. (OJJDP)

 
Assistance Available for Mentoring Programs

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
The Second Chance Juvenile Mentoring Initiative will provide grants to support mentoring for juvenile offenders during confinement, through transition back to the community, and after release; transitional services to assist with the reintegration of juvenile offenders into the community; and training in offender and victim issues. Funding Available To Improve Mentoring Programs

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
The Strategic Enhancement to Mentoring Programs solicitation invites eligible applicants to propose research and evidence-based enhancements to mentoring programs based on three strategies: (1) involving the parents and family in activities and services, (2) delivering structured activities and programs for the mentoring matches, and (3) developing training and support for mentors. Funding Available To Prevent Youth Gang Involvement

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
OJJDP seeks applicants for the Gang Prevention Youth Mentoring Program to establish mentoring programs that offer core services and engage youth with activities that enable them to practice healthy behaviors within a positive prosocial peer group. The target population includes youth at risk for gang involvement, delinquency, and violence. (OJJDP)

 
Funding To Improve Responses to Child Exploitation

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
The Improving Community Response to the Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children program will support communities in combating this crime by enhancing local training and coordination. (OJJDP)

 
Membership Organization for Children's Advocacy Centers Announced

Application deadline: June 8, 2009
The VOCA Children's Advocacy Centers Membership and Accreditation Program will provide funding to support a national membership and accreditation organization for Children's Advocacy Centers. (OJJDP)

 
Mentoring Initiative Seeks Training Provider

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
The successful applicant of the National Youth Mentoring Training and Technical Assistance Initiative will provide training and technical assistance to support mentoring programs and initiatives funded by OJJDP. (OJJDP)

 
Program Assists Child Abuse Professionals

Application deadline: June 8, 2009
The VOCA Training and Technical Assistance for Child Abuse Professionals program will provide funding to develop and implement a model technical assistance and training program for child abuse professionals. (OJJDP)

 
Program Promotes Mentoring for Foster Care Youth

Application deadline: June 8, 2009
The Mentoring Initiative for Foster Care Youth will help communities establish or expand mentoring and support services for youth in foster care. (OJJDP)

 
Program Provides Grants to Children's Advocacy Centers

Application deadline: June 8, 2009
The VOCA Children's Advocacy Centers Subgrant Program will provide funding to manage a grant awards program for Children's Advocacy Centers, which provide a coordinated response to victims of child abuse through multidisciplinary teams. (OJJDP)

 
Transitioning Inmates From Jails to Communities

Application deadline: June 15, 2009
The National Institute of Corrections and the Urban Institute are soliciting applications for four new Transition from Jail to Community (TJC) sites. During the next 2 years, the selected sites will receive technical assistance to help them plan and implement their TJC strategy, targeted technical assistance in areas of particular need in each jurisdiction, and evaluation support. VOCA Training and Technical Assistance Provider Sought

Application deadline: June 8, 2009
OJJDP seeks applicants for its VOCA Training and Technical Assistance for Child Abuse Prosecutors program, which is intended to enhance the effectiveness of the investigation and prosecution of child abuse cases. (OJJDP)

AMBER Advocate Offers Lessons Learned

The latest edition of "The AMBER Advocate" (NCJ 226782, 8 pp.) offers lessons learned and success stories from families of child abduction victims. This issue highlights AMBER Alert training along the U.S.-Mexico border along with initiatives in England, France, and the Netherlands. It also provides information about new AMBER Alert plans in Indian Country. (OJP)

 
Improving Community Policing Initiatives

"Community Policing Defined" (NCJ 226882, 16 pp.) provides detailed descriptions of the community partnerships, organizational strategies, and problem-solving techniques needed for delivering effective services. "The Stop Snitching Phenomenon: Breaking the Code of Silence" (NCJ 226881, 64 pp.) explores the causes of this movement and its effects. COPS Releases Latest Community Policing Dispatch

The May 2009 issue of "Community Policing Dispatch" (NCJ 226800) includes an article about preparing for a flu pandemic and explores a partnership between Chesapeake Habitat for Humanity and the Baltimore (MD) Police Department. This issue also features an interview with Sheriff Leroy (Lee) Baca of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. (COPS)

The Council of State Governments Justice Center will host a webinar, "Improving the Mental Health Court Response to Crime Victims," on May 19, 2009, at 2 p.m. ET. Resources Address Corrections and Swine Flu

With growing concern and risks associated with the outbreak of the H1N1 influenza, the National Institute of Corrections has launched a Web page, Corrections and Swine Flu, to track information and resources of particular interest to corrections practitioners and administrators. The Web page will be updated as needed to help the field of corrections prepare for and respond to H1N1. (NIC)

 
Webinar To Address Drug Endangered Children

The National Alliance for Drug Endangered Children (NADEC) will host a webinar, "Foster Parents and DEC," on May 20, 2009, at 1:30 p.m. ET. Conference Focuses on Crime Victims With Disabilities

The National Professional Training Conference on Responding to Crime Victims with Disabilities will be held September 30 to October 2, 2009, in Denver, Colorado. This OVC-funded conference is hosted by the National Center for Victims of Crime and the Joint Center on Violence and Victim Studies. Team scholarships are available. (OVC)

Register for Crime Mapping Research Conference

The Tenth Crime Mapping Research Conference will be held August 19-22, 2009, in New Orleans, Louisiana. This year's conference will focus on solving problems with geography and technology. Workshops and plenary sessions will discuss traffic safety, policing in neighborhoods, the geographic aspects of sex offender residency restriction laws, and defining high crime. (NIJ)
