ICAC Task Force Awards Announced

DOJ has announced that 13 state and local law enforcement agencies will receive more than $3 million to form Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) task forces in their regions. The funding marks the presence of ICAC task forces in all 50 states. (OJJDP)

 
November Is National American Indian Heritage Month

In recognition of National American Indian Heritage Month, NCJRS presents Justice in Indian Country, a compilation of information and resources on justice-related matters in tribal communities. This resource provides links to publications, Web sites, and funding opportunities on topics including tribal law, justice systems, law enforcement, courts, corrections, juvenile justice, and victim services. (NCJRS)

 
OJJDP Announces Missing Children's Day Poster Contest

The theme of the 2008 National Missing Children's Day Poster Contest is "Bring Our Missing Children Home." The contest invites fifth-grade students to develop artwork that represents America's goal to bring missing children home safely. The winning poster will be displayed at the National Missing Children's Day ceremony, which will be held in May 2008. (OJJDP)

 
Working With Survivors of Traumatic Events

On November 8, 2007, the Office for Victims of Crime will host a Web Forum Guest Host Session on working with survivors of homicide and other traumatic events. Join Carroll Ann Ellis, Director of the Fairfax County Police Department's Victim Services Division and member of Governor Tim Kaine’s Virginia Tech Independent Review Panel, at 2 p.m. ET for the live discussion. Funding Opportunities
 
Funding Available for Technology Grants

Application deadline: November 14, 2007
NIJ is seeking applications for competitive grants that advance technology in the following areas: Less Lethal Technologies, Communications Technology, Body Armor for Law Enforcement and Corrections, Research and Development in the Area of Controlled Substances Detection and Analysis, Personal Protective Equipment, and Electronic Crime and Digital Evidence Recovery. These grants enable specific needs in criminal justice to be addressed. (NIJ)

 
Grants Available To Advance Forensic Technology

Application deadline: November 14, 2007
NIJ is offering funding for grants that expand development and evaluation of forensic technologies. Grants are available for the following: Research and Development in Forensic Anthropology and Forensic OdontologyResearch and Development in the Forensic Analysis of Fire and Arson Evidence, and Forensic DNA Research and Development. Improving Identification and Surveillance Capabilities

Application deadline: November 14, 2007
NIJ is accepting applications for solicitations that enhance and support existing surveillance and identification technologies. Grants are available for the following: Sensors and Surveillance Technologies, Biometric Technologies, Geospatial Technology, and Information-Led Policing Research, Technology Development, Testing, and Evaluation. The  Juvenile Detention Alternatives Initiative is a practice-based, informational resource for juvenile justice practitioners, policymakers, advocates, and others interested in improving the detention component of their delinquency system. Roundtable Discusses Learning From Failures

Sponsored by the Center for Court Innovation and BJA, a roundtable discussed lessons learned from projects that did not succeed. Learning from failure can be just as helpful as learning from best practices in nurturing effective justice programs.
