Candidates Sought for Peer Review Process

BJA is seeking peer reviewers to assess grant applications for its FY 2010 solicitations. BJA needs reviewers with relevant expertise who are from diverse backgrounds and regions and have experience in at least one of various subject areas. Individuals who are interested should submit an up-to-date resume or curriculum vitae to BJA. (BJA)

 
OJJDP Fiscal Year 2009 Awards Available Online

In fiscal year 2009, OJJDP awarded more than $453 million in grants supporting state and local efforts to prevent and respond to delinquency and child victimization and strengthen the juvenile justice system. An additional $146 million was awarded under the Recovery Act. Information on these awards is available online. (OJJDP)

Guidelines Released for Pandemic Flu Preparedness

"Benchmarks for Developing a Law Enforcement Pandemic Flu Plan" is an interactive guide that leads the reader through a planning process to ensure continuity of law enforcement operations during a flu pandemic. This report is one in a series of three documents on the law enforcement response to public health emergencies. (BJA)

 
Intimate Partner Violence Cases Reviewed

"Profile of Intimate Partner Violence Cases in Large Urban Counties" (NCJ 228193, 12 pp.) examines the characteristics and processing of 3,750 cases of intimate partner violence that were filed in the state courts of 16 large urban counties in May 2002. (BJS)

 
Report Highlights Benefits of Tribal Youth Program

In describing the activities of five program sites, "Strengthening Indian Country Through Tribal Youth Programs" examines how OJJDP's Tribal Youth Program is improving the lives of tribal youth and strengthening families. The programs featured in this report build a sense of attachment to heritage, promote belonging, support personal development, and provide exposure to career-related skills. (OJJDP)

National Needs Assessment Survey Now Online

The National Training and Technical Assistance Needs Assessment Survey was developed to assess the needs of the victim services community. Serving Elder Abuse Victims in Indian Country

On November 4, 2009, at 2 p.m. ET, in recognition of National American Indian & Alaska Native Heritage Month, OVC will conduct a Web Forum Guest Host Session on best practices for serving elder abuse victims in Indian Country. Can You Predict Lethal Intimate Partner Violence? will be held November 12, 2009, from 3 to 5 p.m. ET. This free online event, sponsored by NIJ, will focus on best practices to combat intimate partner violence, including use of the Danger Assessment (DA) tool.
