Forum Addresses Internet Safety and Identity Theft

Visit the OVC Web Forum on June 22, 2006, at 2 p.m. ET, for a Guest Host session with Joselle Shea on the topics of Internet safety and identity theft. Ms. Shea is a manager of children and youth initiatives at the National Crime Prevention Council and specializes in youth issues, including Internet safety and teen victimization. (OVC)

 
New Hispanic Anti-Meth Ad Campaign Launches

The Partnership for a Drug-Free America and ONDCP have introduced a new communications campaign aimed at preventing the use of methamphetamine in the Hispanic community. The English and Spanish-language announcements, including public service advertisements for television, radio, and print, will receive national distribution, marking the largest scale Spanish-language anti-meth effort to date. Funding Opportunities
 
$15 Million in Grant Funds Awarded

The Justice Department is distributing nearly $15 million to 140 communities to support school-based, law enforcement officer-instructed classroom curriculums through the Gang Resistance Education And Training (G.R.E.A.T.) Program. The G.R.E.A.T. Program focuses on helping middle school and elementary school students reduce their involvement in gangs and delinquent behavior. (BJA)

 
Grants Will Support Analysis of Survey Data

Deadline: July 5, 2006
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Administration for Children and Families has announced the availability of funds to support secondary analysis of data from the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being. (OJJDP)

"Characteristics of Drivers Stopped by Police, 2002" (NCJ 211471) (12 pp.) provides statistics about outcomes of traffic stops, including police searches, tickets issued to drivers stopped for speeding, arrests of stopped drivers, and police use of force during a traffic stop. Protecting Children From Sexual Exploitation

"Child Pornography on the Internet" (NCJ 214562) (102 pp.) describes the problem and reviews the factors that increase the risks of Internet child pornography. Synthetic Drug Control Strategy Now Available

"Synthetic Drug Control Strategy: A Focus on Methamphetamine and Prescription Drug Abuse" (NCJ 213477) (56 pp.) details the cooperation between the United States, Mexico, and other international partners to reduce the entry of methamphetamine and its precursor chemicals into the United States. Other goals include reducing methamphetamine use and prescription drug abuse by 15 percent, and reducing domestic meth labs by 25 percent. (ONDCP) order print copy
