Hurricane Katrina: Missing Persons

In the wake of Hurricane Katrina and its deadly aftermath, many victims, adults and children alike, have become separated from their loved ones.  The rising (and yet unknown) number of missing/dislocated persons has become a harsh reality for the communities in the Gulf area and the Nation as a whole. Not only is the situation distressing for the families concerned, it may also hamper the recovery process.

In response to this tragedy, NCJRS presents this compilation of resources that may assist in the recovery of missing persons.

For immediate assistance in locating loved ones, please call the following numbers:

  • The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) - 1-888-544-5475
  • The Federal Emergency Management Administration (FEMA) - 1-866-326-9393
  • The American Red Cross - 1-877-LOVED-1S (1-877-568-3317)
