Created in 1991, the CenTF Program strives to increase the operational effectiveness of drug task forces in two different areas--task force command and management and methamphetamine investigation management. CenTF workshops are taught by experienced, command-level instructors. The key elements of the CenTF curricula are based on the lessons learned from the Organized Crime Narcotics (OCN) Trafficking Enforcement Program, funded by the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA), Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice. BJA also funds the CenTF Program and administers the Byrne Program. The Institute for Intergovernmental Research (IIR), a not-for-profit organization specializing in law enforcement research and education, coordinates the CenTF workshops. Each course is cohosted by state, county, or local law enforcement agencies; the Regional Information Sharing Systems (RISS) intelligence center for that area; and the local U.S. Attorney's Office. There is no registration or tuition fee. Participants may be eligible to receive Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) credit for attending a CenTF workshop. ---------------------------- Narcotics Task Force Workshop The Narcotics Task Force Workshop is a 3-day course that provides management-level training to narcotics task force commanders, supervisors, and senior investigative personnel in the operation of a multijurisdictional task force. Working in small teams, participants complete written practical exercises and learn problem-solving techniques in various aspects of multiagency responses to criminal activity. Training topics include: --Task force dynamics and interagency agreements. --Written policies and procedures. --Personnel issues. --Risk assessment. --Case management. --Use of confidential informants. --Raid management. ---------------------------- Methamphetamine Investigation Management Workshop The illegal manufacture and distribution of methamphetamine are two of the fastest growing drug problems in the nation. The rapid spread of methamphetamine from the Western United States to other parts of the country is an increasing challenge for law enforcement personnel. The covert nature of drug laboratories and the hazardous chemicals involved in methamphetamine drug operations pose unique challenges for law enforcement managers and investigators. Investigations must be properly managed to ensure effective and safe outcomes. The Methamphetamine Investigation Management Workshop is a 3-day course that addresses the operational aspects of managing methamphetamine investigations, as well as other problems specific to such investigations. Training topics include: --The methamphetamine problem. --Clandestine laboratories. --Manufacturing methamphetamine. --Investigation techniques. --Raid planning. --Procedures of first responders. --Other commonly manufactured illegal drugs. ---------------------------- For Further Information To receive additional information about the CenTF Program, obtain training schedules, or register for upcoming CenTF workshops, contact: Institute for Intergovernmental Research P.O.
