This is a review of a previously published study which considers the lack of age-appropriate treatment programs/resources in Oklahoma for adolescents involved in illegal sexual behavior and the consequences of minimal attention to their treatment needs.
Abstract
The goal of the study was to provide an overview of the service needs of adolescent sexual offenders in Oklahoma City, Tulsa, and a sample of Oklahoma counties who had been charged with, convicted of, or had disclosed an involvement in illegal sexual behavior (voyeurism, exhibitionism, obscene phone calls, bestiality, incest, sexual assault, or sodomy). Specific information collected included: number of males and females under 18 in those locations; number of youths by age and offense involved in illegal sexual activity; demand for and availability of assessment and treatment facilities; and the perceptions of key individuals from various sectors (probation courts, corrections, child welfare, police, private sector, etc.) about service requirements. The study employed official statistics, a questionnaire, and interviews with key participants. References
