OHIO'S CONTINUING EFFORTS TO REDUCE CRIME AND IMPROVE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SERVICES FOR RESIDENTS OF THE STATE ARE DOCUMENTED IN THIS OVERVIEW OF OHIO'S 1976 PLAN.
Abstract
THE OHIO CRIMINAL JUSTICE SUPERVISORY COMMISSION IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MEETING GOALS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE PLAN. IMPLEMENTATION AND ADMINISTRATION OF THE CRIME CONTROL PROGRAM IN OHIO ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DEPARTMENT OF ECONOMIC AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT'S ADMINISTRATION OF JUSTICE DIVISION. THE PLAN ALLOCATES MORE THAN $20 MILLION UNDER THE CRIME CONTROL ACT, PROVIDED THROUGH LEAA FUNDING AND STATE AND LOCAL MATCHING FUNDS, FOR USE IN CONDUCTING APPROXIMATELY 500 ACTION PROJECTS TO REDUCE CRIME, EFFECT SYSTEMATIC IMPROVEMENTS IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND MODERNIZE OHIO'S ADULT AND JUVENILE JUSTICE SYSTEMS AT BOTH STATE AND LOCAL LEVELS. THE DESCRIPTION OF THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM IN THE STATE COVERS EXPENDITURES FOR CRIMINAL JUSTICE, LAW ENFORCEMENT, SUBSTANCE ABUSE (ALCOHOL AND DRUGS), JUVENILE DELINQUENCY (POLICE FUNCTIONS, JUVENILE COURTS, JUVENILE DETENTION SERVICES, AND THE OHIO YOUTH COMMISSION), DATA SYSTEMS, COURTS, PROSECUTION, DEFENSE, ADULT CORRECTIONS, AND HIGH CRIME AREAS. GRANTS, GOVERNMENT AGENCIES, LEGISLATION, AND LAW ENFORCEMENT ORGANIZATIONS RELATED TO THE ACCOMPLISHMENT OF ACTIVITIES OUTLINED IN THE PLAN ARE REVIEWED. PROVISIONS OF THE ANNUAL ACTION PLAN FOR 1976 AND THE MULTIYEAR PLAN (THROUGH 1978) ARE DETAILED AS THEY CONCERN POLICE EFFECTIVENESS (LAW ENFORCEMENT); PREVENTION, DIVERSION, AND COMMUNITY RELATIONS; JUVENILE DELINQUENCY; SERVICE AND INFORMATION SYSTEM DEVELOPMENTS; IMPROVEMENT OF THE JUDICIAL PROCESS; AND ADULT CORRECTIONS. A PROGRESS REPORT ON ACTIVITIES CARRIED OUT IN 1976 IS INCLUDED. (DEP)
