Annotation
Part of a course designed to acquaint high school students with basic information concerning careers in public service, this student guide is one of nine (each with accompanying teacher's manual) which constitute a course entitled 'Orientation to Public Service.'
Abstract
The units covered by the guide focus on resource management, one of eight major public service occupational groups included in the course. The student is introduced to criminal and civil justice, the job families (law enforcement, fire protection, probation and parole, courts, and corrections), functions and duties of the job families, career ladders in each, and qualifications and requirements. Contents are divided into several units of reading and related activities, some designed for completion individually, some by groups. The total course is the first of a series of three developed as a comprehensive approach to vocational skill development in public service for Georgia high schools. See NCJ 75297 for teacher's manual. (ERIC abstract modified)
