Governor Brown supports police efforts targeted at career criminals, as well as administrative reforms in the funding of local police and prosecution efforts. To control crime in the State, Brown is supporting a quarter-cent sales tax increase and a constitutional amendment to create a special trust fund dedicated to law enforcement activities. He suggests the institution of a national youth involvement program similar to the California Conservation Corps. The need for Federal funds to combat drug trafficking, probation and parole reform, additional police personnel and more prisons, and the abolishment of the exclusionary rule are suggested by other State government officials. Expanding the FBI's role, stricter enforcement at the California-Mexican border, probable cause issues, the need for a Federal correctional center, and other issues are addressed.
