  Annotation: The fiscal year 1995 annual report of the Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA) summarizes the bureau's grant-related activities and crime control initiatives.
Abstract: The report focuses on funds appropriated to assist State and local criminal justice agencies, Byrne grants and subgrants, partnership initiatives in communities to prevent violent crime and reduce illegal drugs, and ways of improving the functioning of the criminal justice system. The report also looks at corrections options and how to make the best use of scarce resources, the role of technology in crime prevention, promising crime control programs, BJA program planning from needs assessment to performance indicators, special BJA programs, BJA legislative purpose areas, and BJA-funded publications. Specific community crime prevention projects and initiatives that have been funded with BJA grants are briefly described, and the BJA's focus on program evaluation, technical assistance, and training is discussed.
