  Annotation: This document contains trend charts on violent crime, property crime, drug abuse, homicide, rape, correctional and State prison populations, and executions.
Abstract: The charts reflect trends in serious violent crime between 1973 and 1996, based on victimizations reported to the police, crimes recorded by the police, and violent crime arrests, as well as trends in property crimes such as burglary, theft, and motor vehicle theft. The charts also indicate trends in drug abuse violation arrests by age between 1970 and 1995, homicide trends between 1900 and 1990, rape trends between 1973 and 1996, serious violent crime trends by perceived age of offender between 1973 and 1996, and homicide victimization trends by age between 1970 and 1995. In addition, the charts show trends in correctional populations between 1980 and 1995, prisoners on death row between 1953 and 1993, and executions between 1930 and 1997. The final chart illustrates trends in government expenditures on criminal justice between 1982 and 1992. 13 figures
