Abstract: In President Obama‘s proclamation of National Youth Justice Awareness Month, OJJDP is specifically acknowledged for its Smart on Juvenile Justice initiative and efforts to implement systemic reforms. On October 19, 2016, the White House and the Department of Justice (DOJ) announced the launch of the first national campaign to raise awareness, teach skills, and inspire public action to address children’s exposure to violence and childhood trauma. OJJDP’s 352 grant awards in fiscal year 2016 addressed help for at-risk youth, protection of children, and improvement in juvenile justice systems nationwide. Twenty sessions that will highlight OJJDP-funded research will be featured at the American Society of Criminology’s annual meeting on November 16-19, 2016, in New Orleans, LA. On September 26, 2016, Attorney General Loretta E. Lynch announced at the Fourth Annual Violence Reduction Network Summit that two new sites have been added to the violence reduction Network (Jackson , MS, and Nashville, TN). Sections on “News in Brief” and new publications are included.
