Annotation: This newsletter of the U.S. Justice Department’s Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) features events, activities, and policy and program descriptions pertinent to the prevention of juvenile delinquency and enlightened juvenile justice policies and procedures.
Abstract: One article reviews the purpose and activities of OJJDP’s involvement in the Justice Department’s observation of National Missing Children’s Day on May 24, 20217. This features a ceremony that honors missing children and recognizes efforts by law enforcement personnel and private citizens to protect children from harm. This OJJDP web page also provides access to an OJJDP-funded toolkit that assists police in responding to children exposed to violence. Attention is also given to the Justice Department’s pledge of continued support during national training for law enforcement on child exploitation. In addition, access is provided to information on OJJDP’s welcoming of Utah as a Smart on Juvenile Justice State; Acting OJJDP’s Administrator’s address to the Coalition of Juvenile Justice Conference; OJJDP’s reflection on the 50th anniversary of In re Gault; the focus on juvenile justice data at the OJJDP Research Roundup; and information on research that is examining ethnic disparities within the juvenile justice system. Access is provided to “News in Brief” that addresses the convening of the National Summit on Violent Crime Reduction, OJJDP initiatives to support law enforcement, OJJDP’s hosting of training for new jvenile justice specialists, OJJDP’s support of the eligibility of Indian tribes for AMBER Alert grants, and the National Center for Juvenile Justice’s update of juvenile justice GPS.
