  Annotation: Intended to provide a comprehensive overview of the state-of-the-art of research and knowledge concerning crime prevention, these 11 papers review theoretical and empirical research findings about different strategic approaches to crime prevention.
Abstract: The contributors, who are internationally recognized experts from Western Europe and North America, explore various methods of developmental, community, and situational crime prevention, as well as traditional law enforcement tactics. They examine strategies such as preventing criminal potential in high-risk groups, changing social conditions that influence crime, and reducing opportunities for the occurrence of crime. An overview summarizes theoretical, measurement, implementation, and evaluation issues. The subsequent papers detail research findings on community crime prevention, situational crime prevention, developmental crime prevention, public health and criminal justice approaches to prevention, the prevention of retail crimes, drug abuse prevention, the prevention of city-center street crimes, preventing repeat victimization, implementing crime prevention, and evaluating crime prevention.
