Abstract: This January/February 2013 edition of the OJJDP News @ A Glance newsletter contains four primary articles dealing with OJJDP programs. The first article, National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month Observed in January discusses OJJDP’s efforts to combat the sexual exploitation of children. The second article, OJJDP Cohosts National Mentoring Summit, discusses the 2013 National Mentoring Summit held from January 24-25 in Washington, DC. The third article, OJJDP Launches Publication Series on Mental Health Needs and Outcomes of Youth in the Juvenile Justice System, discusses “Beyond Detention,” a new publication series that details the findings of the Northwestern Juvenile Project. The fourth article, OJJDP Participates in Briefing, Launches Webinar Series on Family Engagement in the Juvenile Justice System, discusses a daylong retreat held for OJJDP staff on how to engage families as valued partners in the juvenile justice system. Additional sections of the newsletter are News in Brief and New Publications. The News in Brief articles cover a variety of subjects including the Amber Alert program, the National Girls Institute Working Group, the Prevention of Online Child Sexual Abuse, and how solitary confinement affects youth.
