The Washington County Restitution Center (Oregon) is a major component of the Department of Community Corrections.
Abstract
The program is funded by the county, the department, and resident room and board fees. While staffing is provided by the department, residents remain in the custody of the sheriff. Residence in this minimum-security setting is a privilege extended to low-risk offenders by the court as an alternative to jail incarceration. The center provides residents with a secure, well-structured living environment for a 1- to 12-month period of readjustment, guidance, and individual life planning. Regular services include group and individual counseling, life skills training, financial planning, family counseling, education and tutoring, and alcohol and drug abuse counseling. In addition, residents provide an average of 5 hours a week of free community service to nonprofit community and Government agencies. The center will continue to provide an alternative to incarceration in 1983-85. The program will include four new activities: weekend inmate housing, a countywide inmate work project, an improved program structure and service curriculum, and four-bed dormitory housing for females. With an operating budget of $696,230, the center will provide five full-time positions to support the program. Additional program information appended.
