This book describes techniques for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and testing electronic security systems, including improvisations by installers to solve particular problems.
Abstract
Basic electronics and power supplies are first discussed, followed by a discussion of intrusion alarm system components and installation techniques that covers protective circuits, perimeter and interior protective devices, control panels, and system accessories such as remote stations. In two chapters on fire alarm systems and special protection devices, preventing problems with smoke detectors and building a simple, inexpensive fire alarm panel are among the topics addressed. A review of wired and wireless systems considers their comparative advantages and disadvantages along with techniques for running wires and numerous applications of wireless alarms. Since some of the work must be done in the shop, tips are offered for setting up a work area. A chapter suggests ways to ensure installer and customer safety. Hints are provided for selecting or devising the right tool for specific installation and troubleshooting tasks. Illustrations and glossary.
