This report describes the 1984-1985 accomplishments of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention's (OJJDP) Law-Related Education (LRE) Program.
Abstract
LRE teaches elementary and secondary students about the foundations of the United States' democratic society and of the students' rights and responsibilities as citizens. Between May 1984 and April 1985, OJJDP led a coordinated national LRE Program training and dissemination effort, conducted by five nonprofit organizations in California, Illinois, the District of Columbia, and Maryland. Through this effort, model LRE programs were strengthened and expanded in 11 States and a marketing effort was launched to interest other States in the program. During the 1984 to 1985 period, OJJDP sponsored 142 inservice training sessions, 32 trainers workshops, and 21 public-private training sessions, resulting in the training of 48,000 participants.
