NIJ research will be funded through two of its offices: The Center for Crime Control Research and the Office of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Research. The Center for Crime Control Research will focus on research pertaining to drugs, alcohol, and crime; crime control theory and policy; offender classification and the prediction of criminal behavior; violent criminal behavior; and property offenders' perceptions of risks. The Office of Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice Research will sponsor research pertaining to victims and the criminal justice system, public safety and security, the apprehension and prosecution of offenders, the punishment and control of offenders, forensic and criminal justice technology, and supplements for the National Crime Survey.
