This report describes the progress achieved from May 1, 1982, through September 30, 1983, in the Juvenile Justice Assistance Project designed to provide nationwide technical assistance to neighborhoods regarding the development and implementation of juvenile delinquency prevention programs.
Abstract
One component of the project was four workshops intended to facilitate discussion between representatives of youth-serving agencies and neighborhood groups on how to achieve juvenile delinquency prevention goals of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP). A second project component was the provision of training and technical assistance services to State and local agencies and private organizations to facilitate the implementation of the Violent Juvenile Offender Program (VJOP). The third component was the development and dissemination of technical assistance and training materials and a state-of-the-art monograph. In November 1982, OJJDP permitted the project to delete the project's workshop component due to various problems. Nationwide conferences, regional and local training sessions, and onsite consultations achieved toward goals of the second component, technical assistance for the VJOP. Publications under the third component included two technical assistance and training manuals for phase II of the VJOP, a guide to resident mobilization, and a manual on principles of action planning for the VJOP.
