Crime data used were obtained from Uniform Crime Report data, a rape victimization survey, and police records. It is suggested that massive programming efforts are needed in the areas of drug interdiction, prevention, and education; and in service provision, particularly in the areas of domestic and sexual assault. Legislative action should encompass handgun control and the redefinition of domestic violence. Further, data collection efforts are needed in the areas of homicide and robbery, and implementation of the integrated criminal apprehension program should be continued to enhance clearance rates for violent crime. All county law enforcement agencies also should fully participate in the revision of the Federal Uniform Crime Reporting system. Finally, the county should consider acquiring a computerized modeling system that could simulate implications of changes in justice system components for other components and aid in resource allocation decisionmaking.
