Abstract
Articles on efforts by the International Association of Chiefs of Police explore its model drug testing policy for police agencies and the association's resolution declaring drug abuse to be the most serious problem facing the public. Other articles describe approaches being used by law enforcement agencies in setting up drug testing programs. Federal officials describe national efforts to reduce the demand for drugs in the United States, with emphasis on the leadership role of athletes. Another article describes Operation Alliance, an interagency effort designed to stop international drug trafficking and other smuggling across the border between the United States and Mexico. The Secretary of Education describes the scope of student drug use and outlines school policies and programs that are effective in dealing with the problem. Other articles describe the drug abuse resistance education taught by police officers in Los Angeles, the strike force established in Georgia to eradicate marijuana, and training efforts aimed at producing effective implementation of asset seizure laws.
