Abstract
A discussion of the use of simulators to train law enforcement personnel in decisionmaking about firearms use focuses on the judgment pistol shooting programs used at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center at Glynco, Ga. Ways to improve the effectiveness of the interactions between the crime analysis unit and directed patrol operations are explored. The steps involved in developing a policy on vehicle pursuits by members of the Dallas police department are described. A method for estimating costs for new buildings for small police departments is presented. Ten general skills and seven specific techniques are presented for use by police agency spokespersons who are managing difficult or hostile audiences. A summary is presented of an August 1986 meeting called by the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in London, England, to examine the proper law enforcement response to terrorism. The 1986 Federal gun control amendments are discussed, with emphasis on the reasons for the IACP positions on the legislation. Photograph, footnotes, and charts.
