The book focuses on cases relating to the fourth amendment (arrests, searches, seizures, electronic surveillance, and the exclusionary rule); fifth amendment (self-incrimination, grand jury proceedings, and double jeopardy); and sixth amendment (identification practices, right to counsel, speedy and public trial, confrontation, and compulsory process). Other cases reviewed cover pretrial proceedings (prosecutorial discretion and conduct, pretrial release, joinder and severance, disclosure and discovery, and time for trial); guilty pleas (initial advice and findings, plea agreements, and withdrawal of plea); and juries (right to and waiver of jury trial, jury selection, challenges, court and counsel conduct, instructions, deliberations, and verdict).
