Following a discussion of the multicausal assessment of the violent person, a variety of treatment approaches are examined, including behavioral approaches, psychotherapy, and medication. An overview of the use of physical controls with violent patients is provided, and administrative and staffing considerations are discussed. Legal and ethical issues related to the treatment and management of violent persons also are reviewed. Additional chapters focus on the special treatment needs of and strategies for use with violent sexual offenders, violent juvenile offenders, and mentally disordered offenders.
