Parents and other persons interested in planning personal security for children are offered checklists and instructions for home security planning and information about crime prevention measures and sexual assault prevention education.
Abstract
Informal family meetings are the context for crime prevention education and planning. The proposed planning checklist for home security includes such steps as crime prevention research, education of children in recognizing risks and responding to dangerous situations, and family participation in community crime prevention programs. Other checklists pertaining to home security planning focus on apartment security, house security, and steps in planning a crime prevention strategy for the family and children. Information on the development of crime prevention measures focuses on a checklist for selecting and educating a babysitter about crime prevention, selecting child care services, developing a child identification file for parents to give police should their child be missing, and other basic issues relevant to missing children. Also discussed are myths and misconceptions about child molestation, sexual assault prevention planning, and a child's basic rights. 14 organizational information sources.
