This paper discusses changes in British policing focusing on the 'seventies' and to the 'eighties.'
Abstract
Data are drawn from several field studies of the author, as well as secondary analysis of media reports and other research reports. The analysis is organized around police structure, function, and image, and discusses changed political context in which policing now stands. The paper concludes with an overview of four issues of future importance in British policing, scientific management, technology, public trust, and crime control. (Author abstract)
