This representative bibliography of 4,500 references focuses on war crimes, war criminals, and war crimes trials, principally involving World War II (in both Europe and Asia) and also limited references from World War I and post-World War II wars and armed conflicts.
Abstract
Most representative works on World War II published in English and some key works in German are listed. A few books and articles in French, Dutch, Polish, Russian, Italian, Spanish, Finnish, and Japanese have also been included. References are listed under the following topics: General works and subsidiary topics; early war crimes, war criminals, and war crimes trials (pre-World War I and World War I); World War II war crimes; the holocaust; concentration camps; World War II war criminals; World War II war crimes trials in Asia; the Nuremberg international military tribunal; and American military tribunals. Other topic categories are allied military tribunals and national trials, the Adolf Eichmann trial, the Vietnam War and war crimes trials, and miscellaneous post-World War II wars and armed conflicts. References encompass 1918-1984 and include monographs, government documents, dissertations, and periodical articles. Appendixes contain charts, tables, and lists. Also provided is a survey of sources, and the introduction contains a review of the historical background and document sources.
