Abstract
Section One presents juvenile arrest data from 1977 through 1984, with comparisons to national statistics. Sections Two through Four depict juvenile system functioning for the period January-June 1985 by presenting information on cases docketed, cases diverted, referred, transferred, or adjudicated, and cases disposed. The report contains case histories on three samples of juveniles: 453 committed to Department of Corrections (DOC) institutions; 147 on probation and in a DOC residential program; and 46 youths in, or awaiting placement in, a Department of Youth and Family Services (DYFS) residential facility as a result of court referral. Statistics on the use of detention by county are included. The report's final section contains summaries on phone and mail surveys of Family Division case managers, Department of Human Services departmental liaisons, DYFS workers, assistant prosecutors, and deputy public defenders identified by their agencies as having primary responsibility for delinquency cases.
