This paper considers future research in the criminal justice field and applies findings related to emerging approaches and likely innovations to crime prevention in the form of a 21st century scenario.
Abstract
The scenario depicts an environment where physical security devices have been greatly improved through the use of antimagnetic shields, voice-controlled entry systems, and computer-activated crime deterrence measures. Crime is further deterred because of defensive mental telepathy, a cashless society, artificial-intelligence enhanced business security systems, and a strong children's rights movement coupled with widespread parental education in positively reinforcing desirable behaviors. Given these decreased opportunities to commit crime and attitudinal incentives to change, Frank, the scenario's protagonist, sees no reason to engage in criminal activity and falls into the national mood extolling the raising of children to be happy productive citizens. 12 references.
