NCJ Number
103812
Date Published
1985
Length
36 pages
Annotation
This manual provides instructions and materials for use in establishing a block parent program, in which specified homes display signs and are locations to which school children can go if they need help or are in danger.
Abstract
The police department screens the adults in each home that displays the sign in a window facing the street. The sign also indicates to criminals or troublemakers that citizens are alert and children are being protected. The manual explains the responsibilities of parents, teachers, children, block parents, and police. It lists resources to use in operating a program and presents a lesson plan for use in speaking to students about the program. Suggested classroom activities for students in kindergarten through eighth grade are also presented.
