This report contains brief descriptions of ongoing and recently completed research projects funded in 1986 by Canada's Program of Science and Technology in Support of Law Enforcement, along with proposals currently under consideration.
Abstract
An overview of the Program covers the interrelationships of its major participants: the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, the Operational Research Committee (ORC) of the Canadian Association of Chiefs of Police, and the National Research Council. A table summarizes costs on a project by project basis. Descriptions of individual projects address research methodology, findings, and status. Funding information and a contact person are also provided. Subjects investigated by research projects include the detection of drugs in saliva, development of fingerprint dyes, computerization of mugshots, police radio scanners, ammunition evaluation, and the evaluation of micro-to-micro software. Proposed projects are listed in a separate section that provides information on reasons for research, urgency of need, expected results, and benefits to the police community. A bibliography of reports published by program participants in 1985 and a list of the ORC's members are appended.
