This paper presents methods of awareness of communication climates in divorce mediation to help diffuse the defensive and destructive behavior interfering with amicable resolution.
Abstract
More divorcing couples and their families would profit from mediation if their mediators or counselors were able to teach them the basics of communication climates. This paper reviews recent literature on divorce and mediation, explaining how such study can aid couples in using supportive rather than defensive patterns. It cites several visitation dialogs producing these two contrasting patterns.
