Previous research indicates that sex offenders have higher than normal testosterone levels; however, these offenders are incarcerated and many are violent.
Abstract
Initial screening of our offender population, who are all non-violent out-patients, showed a reduced testosterone level, and indicates that hyposexuality may be a critical factor in identifying some sex offenders. With the increase in diagnosis of offenders across the nation, physicians and psychiatric personnel need to be aware of low testosterone as a possible indicator of hyposexuality and possible concurrent offending behavior.
