Nineteen articles provide an overview of child sexual abuse prevention education and discuss issues in child sexual abuse prevention and guidelines for prevention education, followed by descriptions of 19 program concepts.
Abstract
Three articles review some foundational concepts of child sexual abuse prevention. Other articles on issues in child sexual abuse prevention consider the implications of media images of children as sex objects, what is known and what needs to be known about the victimization effects of child sexual abuse, and legal interventions and reforms in child sexual abuse cases. Twelve articles address guidelines for prevention education. They provide guidance for prevention program success, teacher training and teacher roles, parents as prevention educators, the selection of prevention resources, and the orientation of prevention education toward children's developmental stages. Other topics are the use of theater in prevention programs; prevention in the Hispanic community; prevention for disabled children; program evaluation; and new directions for theory, research, and practice. The program descriptions encompass a variety of teaching methods and age groups. Appended supplementary materials, program index, and annotated bibliography of just over 200 listings.
