Some barriers to implementing such a program are scarce teacher time for planning and preparation, teachers' fears of presenting a sexual abuse prevention program, inappropriate material for heterogeneous classes, and lack of support from other teachers and school administrators. Teacher training tailored to teacher needs is one way to overcome these barriers. The training must positively influence the teachers' knowledge, attitudes, behavior, and on-the-job action. Good materials are also necessary to overcome barriers to effective preventive education. Such materials should instruct children in skills required to avoid or counter abusive situations. The material could be presented curricula for daily classroom use, theater and audiovisual presentations, guest speakers, and puppet shows.
