Materials from a Northern Consortium of Housing Authorities (NCHA, England) seminar cover various aspects of housing security and safety.
Abstract
Community information sheets issued by the Tyne and Wear Metropolitan Fire Brigade provide fire safety and prevention guidelines for individuals living in houses and high-rise apartment building and on farms. Tips also cover what to do in the event of fire. Additional sheets discuss prevention of vandalism-related fires in businesses, schools, and public buildings. Others deal with open burning, home use of oxygen, gas heaters, and smoke detectors. A catalog, with price list, describes and illustrates a variety of Chubb door and window locks and security fittings, including deadlocks, bolt locks, padlocks, and 'Crimecheck' lock kits. An NCHA newsletter presents central recommendations of an inquiry report on British housing together with reactions from a housing association, a local authority, and the House Builders Association. A description of recent housing legislation, NCHA activities, publications and seminars, and housing programs also is provided. A list of NCHA publications outlines their content and provides prices for each.
