This manual presents the OSIRIS dictionary (variable numbers, names, and processing information) and descriptive summary for a study of rapes and attempted rapes in the United States, based on the relevant cases reported in the National Crime Survey (victimization survey) for 1973-1979.
Abstract
The definition of rape in the National Crime Survey includes attempts that involve a verbal threat of rape. The collection contains variables pertaining to crime characteristics such as the setting, the relationship between the victim and offender, the likelihood of injury, and the reasons why rape is not reported to the police. There are 338 variables on 1,236 cases.
