This reference manual is designed for use by professional forensic anthropologists in the field in identifying the ethnic affiliation, sex, age, and stature of unknown human skeletal remains.
Abstract
The manual is designed solely to provide easy access to numerical information. It assumes expert knowledge of human skeletal and dental anatomy, mastery of measurement techniques, observational skills necessary for identifying changes in hard tissues, and a working knowledge of current and past literature in forensic anthropology. Tables include unstandardized discriminant function coefficients for the attribution of age and sex on the basis of both cranial and postcranial measurements, developmental sequences of the deciduous and permanent teeth, age distributions of the stages of union of postcranial bones, and regression equations and tables for the estimation of height for both sexes and among different ethnic groups.
