These 11 papers present theoretical and empirical examinations of criminality and criminological issues, with emphasis on youth and adult criminality in Israel.
Abstract
One paper criticizes criminology for giving insufficient attention to white-collar crime. Several others examine the relationship of juvenile delinquency to birth order and family size, criminality among people aged 55 and over, and involvement of Israeli youth in drugs and alcohol. Also explored are attitudes toward traffic violations with and without the presence of a police officer. A comparative analysis considers the role of mediators in handing disputes involving killings in Bedouin and rural Arab communities as well as other Muslin cultures. A communication model is presented to explain the breakdowm in communications that commonly occurs between criminal justice researchers and program administrators. One paper proposes the use of an existentialist approach to prisoner treatment and rehabilitation, and another examines recidivism resulting from Israel's use of an early release committee to evaluate each prisoner. A behavioral typology of suicide is presented, based on the use of a new personality theory. A final paper looks at corruption involving Israeli soccer games. Data tables, figures, chapter notes, and reference lists.
