This manual gives historical background on the position of the U.S. Marshal and describes the duties of the U.S. Marshals Service.
Abstract
The 94 U.S. Marshals and their staff are responsible for investigations related to certain Federal fugitives, ensuring court security, receiving and processing Federal prisoners, and providing for custody of unsentenced Federal prisoners. Other responsibilities are the transportation and movement of Federal prisoners, the Witness Protection Program, management of seized and forfeited assets, execution of court orders, collection and disbursement of funds, aiding in emergency situations, and handling of fugitives surrendered under requests for extradition by a foreign government.
