This handbook provides basic information on the nature, causes and consequences of domestic violence, and the laws in the State of California.
Abstract
It describes the options and rights of domestic violence victims, explains the role of the criminal justice system with reference to domestic violence, and provides a list of available emergency services for domestic violence victims. This handbook is intended for use by law enforcement officials, people in the government, and those in the private sector who assist victims of domestic violence, as well as for victims themselves. It presents an overview of domestic violence, examines the law, explains what a person should do who becomes a victim of domestic violence, and describes the criminal justice system. It lists two women's organizations in the State of California that can refer battered women to programs closest to their homes.
