The security specifications required an integrated electronic system with flexibility, capacity for expansion, and ease and availability of service and maintenance. The facilities management system consists of a fully integrated network of computers throughout the complex. Each computer is monitored at a security control center and is interconnected by fiber optic cables. The network provides sophisticated closed-circuit television monitoring and communications, card access protection, fire and security supervision, and energy management capabilities. The main consoles are housed in a large computer room. Video terminals and printers provide information for the complex. The security center also monitors operations at other-plants through modems that communicate with remote computers and provides residential security protection for top executives. The security building also contains a strategic planning center, training room, equipment room, and operations room. The center also houses a private security service that Stroh helped establish and a ministation of the Detroit Police Department. Photographs.
