Testimony on drug trafficking and abuse along the Mexican border of Texas and New Mexico focuses on Federal, State, and local efforts to reduce drug supply and demand.
Abstract
The Governors of Texas and New Mexico testify on the difficulty of obtaining adequate resources to stem the tide of drugs coming across the border. Both want increased Federal support. Representatives of various Federal agencies (Drug Enforcement Administration, Customs Service, and Immigration and Naturalization Service) describe their efforts to reduce the drug supply across the border. State and local officials and private citizens describe drug prevention programs that include education programs for students and parents and communitywide drug awareness/prevention programs. Data on drug seizures and arrests in the border region are provided.
